Maintaining your bicycle repair stand may sound like an oxymoron but it is a great way to extend the life of your bicycle repair stand and prevent any unexpected breakdowns when it comes to the night before a big ride or event. Here are some helpful tips on how to keep your repair stand in tip top shape:
What you’ll need:
- A Towel
- Pledge, Bike polish, or other protectant.
- Grease (For Sprint)
- Spray Lubricant
- Isopropyl Alcohol
Keep your repair stand dry and lubricated.
Don’t get me wrong here, you should definitely get your repair stand wet! We love getting a bike dirty , but a clean bike is a fast bike so make sure it always gets a good washing afterwards. Make sure after using your repair stand to wash your bike, you dry it off and leave it out to air dry. Periodically lubricating the leg pivot joints with tri-flow to flush out any debris will increase the longevity of your reliable stand and add a layer of protection to the moving parts.
Keep your clamp jaws clean and free of debris.
You can clean your clamp jaws with some isopropyl alcohol and a soft rag. This is important when it comes to clamping on painted seat posts or dropper posts. While the clamp jaws are coated with a soft rubber compound any debris from your previous ride could pose a scratch risk. It is always a good idea to keep your clamp jaws clean for years of reliable use. Our clamp jaws are also backwards compatible with Ultimate stands. So repair your stand, don’t replace it.
Sprint Repair Stand Upkeep
If you find yourself using the Sprint stand primarily for keeping your bike looking fast you can periodically grease the hardware with a heavy waterproof grease. This will ensure to keep water and contaminants out of the threads, preventing potential corrosion.
Keeping the clutch mechanism of your repair stand will insure your clamp head stays in place when rotating a bike on it. Clean your clutch cup with isopropyl alcohol. Loosen the rear tri knob so that the head is in the folded position and the silver clutch cup spins freely. You should spray the mating surfaces with isopropyl alcohol and wipe them down with a clean rag to remove any debris or contamination.
